I read these forums and I just shake my head. When they plate race, it's twice as bad.
Everyone complains about the "Big One". So NASCAR does the smart thing, and warns drivers not to bump draft in the corners. DUH. Then everyone complains because NASCAR isn't letting them slam into each other in the corners and create lots of Big Ones.
Then, there's Big Ones caused by, huh hmmm, bump drafting. And everyone complains that they had a Big One. Then they complain that the rest of the race was boring. Because there was no bump drafting, which sometimes causes Big Ones.
Eyeyeyeyeyeyeyeyeye!!!!
You sit and watch a 500 mile race, and complain that it's too long. You knew it was 500 miles long, why did you sit there and watch it? So you can complain that drivers use STRATEGY in a 500 mile race? Because that makes sense.
Then we complain about the restrictor plate. What a stupid idea. Of course of cars went in the stands and mauled 15 or 20 people on network TV, everyone would complain that NASCAR should have prevented that, and now we have no racing to watch anymore.
Ahhh, but it would be better if they did this and this, and drive up the costs. And NASCAR really needs to do something about the richest teams winning races too!!! I chose my nickname because you make my head spin.
The common car is evil and wicked. Trying to make the racing better by giving everyone the same equipment. And OMG it's killing the sport with one team winning races and championships. wow
They're stupid for limiting testing and impounding cars after qualifying. And, they need to do more to help the underdog. Incredible.
You know what? NASCAR should spend millions of dollars to knock down the banking at Daytona and Talladega, make them more like Michigan and California. But California needs to lose a date because the racing there is boring. wow
Maybe NASCAR just isn't your sport. Maybe you'd prefer short races, win-to-get-in, cars that put on a great side-by-side show no matter what track they're at, or what condition it's in.
Tune in Saturday night and take in some dirt late model racing.
And the first person who says the cars should have stock bodies and front wheel drive will be tied to a chair and forced to watch 36 straight hours of econo stocks...

I think you make a valid point. There is too much racing out there to not find something you like.

Restrictor plate racing is not about racing . Is about drafting . One has to have more faith on the drivers and allow them to race without restrictors. They will know what to do ( unless you are talking about Kez).
If people on the stands are at risk , move the stands. Also the accidents occurred on the straights , because they are drafting.
You are right perhaps NASCAR is not for everyone that is why attendance is down as well as TV ratings.
Just and opinion ,it is not my purpose to offend anybody

Gee Spin I was thinking that NASCAR needed fans! guess not huh?
Every form of racing fans complain about their race's, some of the series listen some do like NASCAR and act like they don't matter. With NASCAR's current attitude it will be shrinking and will going to tape delay broadcast.

It's not that they don't have faith in the drivers. It's a matter of controlling the speed of the cars. Something every series has faced.
Fans have to be kept safe. Drivers can't sustain the incredible forces of impact at speeds higher than they run now. Heck if IRL cars were faster, the drivers would pass out at some tracks.

Not my concern. You know what, I can watch baseball shows on TV, go to games, and nobody is sitting there all ticked off because the game is boring. And every game isn't decided in the bottom of the 9th. And the underdog doesn't win every game.
Some fans enjoy the dozen or more strategies that go into every pitch.
Others are just there to be entertained. And they don't have unreasonable expectations that it doesn't look like a video game. And they're not ticked off that it isn't hockey.
It's much more fun to enjoy...

I agree that people need to ask themselves what they think is a good race and why are they watching. If you read peoples cmplaints you will see that 1.5 mile ovals suck, Michigan and California are boring, Bristol has been ruined, Pocono is boring and so is the brickyard. What exactly is a good track? I think you need the brickyard and Pocono to have some variety. Imagine having a few tracks where the driver has to get off the gas and brake wow you know we do hve them now. All. I guess the forums are the place to air your complaints but nobody is forced to watch. I guess all you can say is people want it better which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I do agree with most of what is said here. I feel most of the complaints on here are just a lot of hot air and that is the way that I look at them. The one complaint that I do think is actually a good one is that the car does need work. NASCAR has put the teams in such a box that really limits what can be done and also limits how they can race. I don't and never have minded the races where one or two cars get on a rail and just run away from the field. It did not happen every race but now NASCAR makes sure it will not happen at all by making sure the field is bunched up so they have a close ending to the race.
I would still like to see more of a variety to the tracks they race on. I like the short tracks and I like Bristol even more now since they are capable of racing side-by-side as long as the car allows it. I do not like the wreck fests or having to knock someone out of the way just to get around them so that might be why I like Bristol now.
I do have to admit that my favorite racing is the Real Sprint cars with or without wings and I wish SPEED would show more more of them but then I like most types of racing.

There are alot of issues that need addressed in all forms of racing. Politics, skill over marketability, driver/fan safety, venue design for performance & the list is looong. But each track has its own personality just like people. That's why we go there & why racing is still one of the best sports in the world. I'm sick of the 48 & Keselowski crashing people, but I'm still a major fan & my house always will be. (By the way, Brad Krashalotski caused the last big one this weekend by turning his future teammate! They just never commented on what or who caused that one for some reason.) Anyway, have a great day everyone!

You know, it looks like Lots and Lots of people this year are saying exactly this. TV ratings have been lower for the last 6 races.

There is an element of denial about the problem we have this week - from the guys on Wind Tunnel to This week in NASCAR, the people that run the track - even Chad Knaus had the audacity to look into the camera and claim that Dega was a great race with lots of action.
It wasn't a good race. The reason is simple - the soon to be crowned champion didn't have to race anyone. The other contenders had no choice but to mix it up and because of that they got taken out. Mark Martin's interview at the end said it all.
During the race, on the radios the competitors were making fun of it.
Race fans are not stupid - whether it's F1, IndyCar, or NASCAR - a crummy race is a crummy race. In this case it is clear that the race was setup to be this way by the officials.
There is an awful lot of brown nosing going on this week trying to minimize the damage - and if you ask me people need to be far more critical of NASCAR, especially the analysts and drivers.
Spencer was on TWIN yesterday complaining about the bad press the sport is getting for that wreck - but the fact is these wrecks keep happening - and there was a very serious injury in the stands the last time it happened - yet here we go again with a car flying through the air.
When and if someone gets killed, you are going to see some drastic changes, and all you defending the current situation will really be angry. NASCAR has a chance to proactively make the changes that are needed to be made, specifically in the area of the engine formula, and they seem determined not to deal with it...and that is the problem here...not the fans...not the criticism...

oh brother.. so if anyone has an opinion or doesn't like a race or how the sanctioning body handles something, they should quit being a fan and turn on something else?
