..doesn't the open rear wing on COT cars, designed for downforce, create LIFT when going backwards at 200mph?
Ask Ryan Newman- he's an engineer, and has [recent] first-hand experience.

No, it does not. It actually acts as a sort of an air brake. It is the shape of the car which creates lift.

Think about an airplane wing, larger surface area on the top than the bottom. This causes High pressure below and low pressure above. When going forward the car has enough downforce to negate the lift, but when sideways or backwards, it does not. The raised spoiler does seem to have a negative effect on the roof flaps however, which is a problem that will need to be addressed.

Maybe they should just dump the wing and go back to a spoiler like what's going to be on the Nationwide COT.

well.. there is quite a bit of difference between 150 and 190mph.. and even more difference when you're talking about a 3450lb stock car and a 900lb Sprinter

A WoO Sprint Car has nowhere near the protection of a NASCAR CUP Car, an a WoO Sprint is 1375 with the driver in it.

you're still talking about a one ton difference moving 40+ mph faster

Like I said, I'm no expert, but if you think about airplane elevators- trailing edge up, pushs tail down, trailing edge down- lifts tail up. In effect, going backwards at 200mph, you have the trailing edge down.
It would seem that the general shape of the car- relatively flat bottom, disturbed air over the top- would create a positive wing effect that front and rear spoilers are designed to reduce.
Did Newman's roof flaps deploy-I don't recall?

Yes they did deploy an even when the car was going up they were still open.
